  Master of Science (Information Technology) by Research KPT/JPS (PA8413) 01/11
 

Universiti Tun Abdul Razak seeks graduates with a Bachelors degree from any relevant field from recognised universities to enroll in the university's M. Sc.(IT) by research programmes. They should have good academic credentials and demonstrate clearly defined professional goals that will be enhanced through traditional or professional graduate education. Candidates who have been enrolled into a Master programme from other approved institutions may apply for a transfer of the graduate programme to this university.

 

  • Bachelors degree (honours) second lower in IT or Computer Science with experience

     

English Proficiency Requirement

International students must possess the following minimum English Language proficiency requirement before being allowed to register for Faculty courses as listed in the respective programme structures: TOEFL score of 450 or IELTS band 4.

The validity period for TOEFL and IELTS is two (2) years from the date of the award.

Without such qualifications, international students are required to register for and pass the Intensive English Programme. This English programme will incur additional charges apart from the respective Programme Fee.

  • Duration of Study
    The minimum period for completing a Masters programme is three semesters (one year). The maximum period for completion of a Masters programme is 12 semesters (4 years).

    24 research credits

    Candidates may apply anytime throughout the year. Candidates will be advised as to when to register.

Synopsis
Research Methodology
The student is required to study and understand research methodology and data analysis techniques.
Problem Identification
The student is required to do a library research and read widely in the area that he/she intends to do the research on. He/she should also consult his/her supervisor, supervisory committee members, other researchers and academicians knowledgeable in the research area in an effort to provide direction of the study. After he/she is satisfied with the research that he is about to undertake and meets the required standards as set by the supervisor and/or Supervisory Committees, he/she shall prepare the preliminary literature review on the subject matter.
Literature Review and Proposal Writing
The student is expected to prepare a literature review on the area/topic that he/she intends to do his/her research on.
Analysis
The student, with the guidance of his/her supervisor and/or supervisory committee, will analyse the data collected using appropriate techniques to answer the research questions and/or test the hypotheses so as to achieve the objectives of the research. The research results are interpreted and discussed accordingly.
Prototyping 1
The student, with the guidance of his/her supervisor and/or supervisory committee, will prepare the research results and its interpretation in a format set by the supervisory committee.
Prototyping 11
The student, with the guidance of his/her supervisor and/or supervisory committee, will prepare the research results and its interpretation in a format set by the supervisory committee.
Proposal Submission and Defense
The student, with the guidance of his/her supervisor and/or supervisory committee, will prepare the write-up of the whole thesis and makes a presentation to the Examining Committee. The format of the write-up should follow the Graduate School Guidelines for Writing Thesis.
