PTPTN EDUCATION LOAN
Financing studies is a very important aspect of every student's plan. Some students need financial assistance to complete their courses at the university. As such, Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) has set up a special unit to assist students in their application for financial assistance especially from the National Higher Education Fund Organisation (PTPTN) and other organisations or foundations, which provide scholarships and study-loans. Though UNIRAZAK is a private institution and profit oriented entity, it also gives out scholarships from a special fund. Other financial aids are for cases of emergency or death. The UNIRAZAK also gives out special short-term loans or grants on a case-to-case basis and on humanitarian grounds with consideration purely on merit . 2. PTPTN LOAN (NATIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION FUND BOARD / PERBADANAN TABUNG PENDIDIKAN TINGGI NASIONAL) PTPTN is a special fund established under the auspices of the Ministry of Education with the objective of offering educational loans to all eligible Malaysian students pursuing their tertiary studies at selected institutions of higher learning in the country. UNIRAZAK has been included in the list and the facility is meant for both the Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera students studying at the UNIRAZAK. Hence, all undergraduate students of UNIRAZAK are eligible to apply for the facility and to date, more than ninety-five per cent of the applicants have been successful in their applications. Although there is a small fee charged on the principal amount, the loan is repayable over twenty years upon graduation and employment of the UNIRAZAK. Some of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the PTPTN loan are as follows:
2.1 What is PTPTN loan? A PTPTN loan is an education loan awarded by the Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN) which is a special body established under the auspicious of the Ministry of Education with the objectives of offering educational loans to all eligible Malaysian students pursuing their tertiary studies at selected institutions of higher learning in the country. UNIRAZAK has been included in the list and the facility is meant for both Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera students studying at the UNIRAZAK.
2.2 What is the amount of PTPTN loan you are eligible for? The amount of loan that an undergraduate at UNIRAZAK is eligible for depends on the field of study. A student enrolled in Bachelor is eligible to receive an amount ranging from RM4,200 to RM16,000 per year depend on the programme. Those who are enrolled in Foundation programmes may receive an amount ranging from RM3,500 to RM7,000 per year depend on the programme.
2.3 How do you apply for PTPTN? All application must be submitted through online application. Students are adviced to understand the rules and guidelines on how to fill up online application form from the officer incharge on the registration day or at UNIRAZAK's office. Effective from 1 st January 2012, students who wish to apply for PTPTN loan are COMPULSORY to have SSPN account with minimum savings of RM20.00.
2.4 What are the conditions you must fulfil to obtain the PTPTN loan? To obtain the PTPTN loan, the person applying should have the entry requirements which are accredited by the Private Higher Education Department (JPS) to undergo the relevant programme. A pass in SPM with a minimum of 3 credits in any subject and enrolment in an undergraduate programme which have been accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and JPS are needed. Importantly the person applying should not be a holder of any other loan or scholarship.
2.5 Which department is responsible to assist you in applying for the PTPTN loan? The Finance and Accounts Department in UNIRAZAK is responsible to assist you in applying for the PTPTN loan.
2.6 Is UNIRAZAK responsible if you are not able to secure the PTPTN loan? If students are not successful in securing the PTPTN loan, the Finance and Accounts Department of UNIRAZAK will assist and look into the causes of the eventuality. As a rule of thumb, PTPTN has the final say as to whether to approve, reject, terminate or cancel the application or the loan offer, hence the UNIRAZAK shall not be responsible if students application is rejected, for whatsoever reason given by PTPTN.
2.7 What are the conditions stipulated by PTPTN for students to fullfil, before PTPTN releases the approved loan for a particular semester? a) Students must have registered for courses for the semester, and b) Students must have achieved a GPA of at least 2.00 for the previous normal semester.
2.8 How many times PTPTN releases the approved loan in a year? PTPTN releases the approved loan twice in a year in the normal semester.
