Abstract

TRADING IN CYBERSPACE: IS THERE A FUTURE?

Noor Raihan Ab. Hamid

The advent of E-Commerce has resulted in the emergence of new business models. Cybertrading is one of the early start-up companies in Malaysia who serves as an Internet intermediary providing infrastructure support service called E-Niaga. E-Niaga is an Internet-based platform connecting a large Malaysian company, Wawasan and its pool of suppliers where they can interact through the convenience of the Internet browser, and enjoy the speed and transparency of online purchasing. For the last 10 years, Cybertrading has been serving its only customer, Wawasan and its suppliers where its revenue stream solely depends on commission fees collected on every online purchase. As the company is faced with slow growth and risk of losing its revenue stream, Cybertrading needs to rethink its business model in order to sustain in the long run.
